Chili chili chili chili!!!!

I thought that due to the weather a hot Chili recipe would be the best thing to start my blog with! This is a Chili recipe I found. It's so perfect I didn't need to do really anything to it. I made it for my guy friends and it's true that the true way to a mans heart is through his stomach. (even though mine are still boys) I not only got a round of applause but I have been hassled to make it ever since. It's got a few funky ingredients you would never guess to put in but I believe that is what makes this recipe phenomenal! Mmmmm it's so good it's making me want to cook it right now. I'm also going to put in my own personal cornbread recipe. Mix the two and you will go into a food coma. This recipe feeds 14. Unless you have boys then it only feeds about 10 (trust me). Well ya'll here it is!

  • 1 1/2 cups onion soup, prepared from a packet of dry onion soup mix
  • 1/4 cup bacon grease )
  • 1 1/2 pounds boneless beef round steak, cut into 1/3-inch cubes
  • 1 1/2 pounds beef sirloin steak, cut into 1/3-inch cubes
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 3 (15 ounce) cans kidney beans, undrained
  • 1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
  • 1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 2 teaspoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup cola soft drink (such as Coke®)
  • 1 tablespoon yellow sport pepper sauce

  • Directions:
    1. Prepare soup from a packet of onion soup mix according to the package directions, and set 1 1/2 cups aside.
    2. Place bacon grease into a large stainless steel soup pot over medium-high heat, and cook and stir the cubed round and sirloin steak meat in the bacon fat until well browned, about 10 minutes. Pour in the reserved onion soup, bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer and cook for 7 minutes, stirring to dissolve any browned flavor bits from the pot.
    3. Stir in salt, chili powder, cumin, black pepper, kidney beans, tomato paste, and tomato sauce. Bring the mixture to a boil, stirring frequently to avoid burning the bottom, then cover, reduce heat to low, and simmer for 1 hour, stirring occasionally. Stir in the cocoa powder, cola, and hot sauce, and simmer for 20 more minutes. Serve hot.

Just a tip, putting the steaks in the freezer for about 15 minutes will make them easier to cut.

Serve with saltine crackers or the Frito scoops and definitely some CHEESE! Yum Yum!

Now here is the Sweet Cornbread Recipe. My favorite! This is also good with taco salad and just to have as comfort food.

    1 cup all-purpose flour
    1 cup cornmeal
    1/4 cup sugar
    1/2 tsp. baking powder
    1/2 tsp. baking soda
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 egg, lightly beaten
    1/4 cup sour cream
    1/3 cup milk
    1/4 cup butter, melted
    1 can creamed corn

    1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, cornmeal, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Combine egg, sour cream, milk, cream corn, and butter in a separate bowl; Stir into dry ingredients just until moistened.

    2. Pour into greased 8 inch sq. baking dish. Baking at 400 degrees for 20-25 min or until toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Serve.

    Hope you all enjoy!
